These soft, cosy and simply stunning hats are hand-knit in Bolivia, by the artisans of the Artesania Sorata Co-op. Chullos are traditional style hats, worn by both adults and children in the Andes. These hats are thin but very warm.
The artisans are Aymara, an indigenous culture. Artesania Sorata was established in 1978 and provides work for families with low incomes in both rural and urban Bolivia. The income generated enables the artisans to provide a higher standard of living for their families, and improve educational outcomes. The project also keeps traditional weaving and textile traditions alive.
Artesania Sorata is part of a U.S. non-profit organization called Campo Nuevo.
